FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The EC Transition Coordinator position enhances the effectiveness of social, emotional, and academic success through the coordination, implementation and administration of Transition Services to students with disabilities following the Future Ready Course of Study, Occupational Course of Study and Extended Content Standards pathways. Employee demonstrates expertise in the areas of interagency collaboration, job development, job coaching, vocational assessment, transition planning, and compliance issues for students with disabilities.
Employee is responsible for interpreting changes in the North Carolina Curriculum, informing teachers and principals of the implications of those changes, and ensuring that instruction is aligned with curriculum goals as it relates to students with disabilities.
This is a full-time 11-month position DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Provide training for middle school personnel to determine appropriate high-school pathway.
- Provide feedback to building administration and EC personnel regarding student transition needs.
- Provide coaching and modeling to EC teachers on administration of transition assessments and the integration of postsecondary transition planning within the IEP.
- Organize and conduct training in new and/or innovative practices for EC teachers and teacher assistants based on educational needs.
- Communicate effectively with EC administrators and school-based student services personnel regarding the course of study pathway and its alignment with transition services provided by WS/FCS.
- Coordinate scheduling of students to facilitate on-time graduation.
- Observe students in classroom settings and provide support related to transition.
- Provide direct consultation to Occupational Course of Study teachers in the area of Career Portfolio development.
- Assess the overall effectiveness of EC Transition Services to students with disabilities by maintaining standards of performance and program outcomes.
- Oversees all aspects of the occupational training for students with disabilities (school-based enterprises, community-based training, required work hours, internships, job shadowing, volunteer experiences)
- Coordinate community resources with student needs, as necessary.
- Develop partnerships with businesses, organizations, neighboring school district and area universities to enhance training opportunities and transition opportunities for students with disabilities.
- Plan and coordinate activities related to transition services.
- Ensures the implementation of required policies and procedures affecting students with disabilities.
- Revise and update program materials, manuals, and presentations.
- Refer and coordinate with Employment and Independence for People with Disability Counselors.
- Manage local budget for expenses related to students.
- Monitors and supports Indicator 13 as it relates to required IEP components.
- Assist in collecting Indicator 14 data.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, community agencies, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Knowledge of labor market trends and employer needs.
- Knowledge of requirements for each graduation pathway.
- Ability to effectively evaluate and assist students in developing career interests.
- Ability to organize and analyze occupational and educational information.
- Ability to monitor/assess performance of program to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively both in writing and orally.
- Demonstrate active listening skills.
- Competent with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Docs suite.
EDUCATION ANDEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: - Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Special Education and three (3) years experience working with students with disabilities.
- Desirable: Masters Degree in Special Education and five (5) years experience working with students with disabilities including a portion performing in a leadership or administrative role.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: - Valid NC Teacher License
- Valid NC Drivers License
